State creates special task force

The nuclear disaster in Japan has prompted governments to review the safety of nuclear facilities. New Jersey, for example, announced it is forming a task force to review the operations and emergency preparedness plans at its four nuclear generating facilities.

The Department of Environmental Protection said the goal is to see if there are lessons learned from Japan's nuclear emergency that could enhance New Jersey's safety protocols.

The task force will examine emergency response procedures, technical reviews of plant operations, the chain of command and control at each facility, evacuation plans and emergency communications to the public.
