As part of its Healthcare Risk Management Practice initiative, Midwest Employers Casualty Co. offers its health care clients comparative data. Company officials say it's a unique type of benchmarking.
"We create a virtual peer of that particular organization," said Darrell Toenjes, MECC's healthcare practice leader. "Then we do a comparative analysis to determine the number of losses the client could expect to incur and the average expected costs of those claims."
Toenjes says clients seeking comparative information receive that and more. "We make the analysis very specific based upon the client's payroll structure and unique risk factors, so they're getting a very accurate picture of their loss exposure. We think that's an effective way to benchmark."
